Reinhard's research interests focus on the formation, composition, structure, properties and function of plant surface waxes. Lipids play a pivotal role in all interactions between plants and their biotic and abiotic environment. Integrative research in his lab spans secondary metabolites, wax accumulation and recovery after damage, biosynthetic pathway of enzymes, cloning of relevant genes and expression studies, characterization of infochemicals at the plant surface, and wax compounds forming the transpiration barrier. Cuticular waxes on wheat, barley and rye surfaces occupy current research.
