George Soong

With a background in wood science, George came to UBC as a graduate student in 1998. He spent some time doing research at UBC, then spent 2 years working as a quality control technician at a pulp mill. He then returned to UBC to join the ERMP program at the Pulp and Paper Centre (PPC). He became the safety and operations officer at PPC in 2009.  

George is commonly referred to as the soul of BPI. As the safety officer, he oversees safety, security, and building operations to ensure BPI can continue to function at its best. He also still participates in research activities, assisting current projects wherever needed.
