PhD Positions open in Germany

July 7, 2021

Two PhD positions are open in Germany for researching on "Short-term strength of wood cross- sections subjected to impact stress".

The Institute for Building Materials, Solid Construction and Fire Protection (iBMB) at the TU Braunschweig is offering two PhD positions, funded by the BMEL. The succesful candidates will work on the joint project: "Development of a sustainable pro-tective plank system made of highly stressable wood composite elements (wood protective plank)". Here, the focus will be on the topic "Development of a finite element model to predict the effects of the impact of a vehicle on a wooden protective device in road traffic (crash barrier)" with the following focal points:

  • Numerical, mathematical modeling
  • Engineering implementation

Your Qualifications:

  • Completed studies (Master‘s degree or equivalent) in materials science, civil engineering or mechanical engineering
  • Preferably knowledge of wood as a material or engineered wood construction
  • We require self-motivation and willingness to learn

The two PhD students will work together in a team with part-ners from Fraunhofer WKI and from industry for three years. You should have a high willingness to cooperate and be interes-ted in an intensive scientific and organizational exchange with the partners.
