We would like to extend a warm welcome to Dr. Vasileios Kontogiorgos for joining BPI!
Dr. Kontogiorgos has received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Food Science from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). A full scholarship was then awarded from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation for PhD studies in Food Science at the University of Guelph (Canada), where he studied the physical chemistry of foods at sub-zero temperatures. After his PhD, he worked as an NSERC research fellow at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (Canada), studying the behaviour of soluble dietary fibre in mixed systems with proteins.
Following that post, he worked as a teaching and research academic at the Department of Biological Sciences of the University of Huddersfield (UK) before joining the School of Agriculture and Food Science at the University of Queensland (Australia). During this time, Dr. Kontogiorgos built a research team focusing on applied and fundamental aspects of isolation and characterisation of polysaccharides and their arrangement at fluid interfaces of food systems.
Dr. Kontogiorgos joined the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at UBC, where he currently focuses on the interfacial properties of polysaccharides and the physical properties of biodegradable materials for food packaging. Dr. Kontogiorgos is an Associate Editor of Food Hydrocolloids and Food Biophysics.
We are thrilled to have Dr. Vasileios Kontogiorgos join our research team. With his extensive background and innovative approach in food chemistry, we eagerly look forward to the fresh perspectives and contributions he will bring to our collaborative efforts in advancing sustainable food packaging solutions.
Welcome aboard, Dr. Kontogiorgos!
