ATR Program Development including Projects Management Services

Introduction:

The BioProducts Institute (BPI) is UBC’s Global Research Excellence Institute championing biobased innovations for society’s needs.  The Accelerating Technology Readiness (ATR) program supports advancement of inventions along the pathway towards commercialization and impact. Its objective is move up the Technology Readiness Level in a commercial context. Specific aspects of the program include:

  • Identify and share market technical needs 
  • Support commercial innovation ideation 
  • Technology screening and IP development
  • Techno-economic and environmental evaluation 
  • Sustainability and climate evaluation
  • De-risking specific technical aspects and including pre-pilot scaling up
  • Support investor ready development

Activities: 

The ATR Program consultant will champion program development while managing the progression of individual ATR projects. Specific tasks will include: 

Project management: overseeing the entire ATR program and associated stakeholders, tracking activities and deliverables, ensuring constant feedback, keeping documentation, and enhancing collaborations. Gathering input from the BPI Team, BPI researchers and identifying opportunities to ensure project deliverables are met. Deliverables: manage regular meetings and progress updates to the BPI ATR program lead.

ATR framework development: Continue to refine and expand the ATR framework to support the development of early-stage commercially viable innovations and advancing technologies up the TRL (de-risking). Deliverables (by Feb. 15, 2024, 6 months): key supporting documents (PPT, word), including general and specific objectives, expected budget, timeline, team composition, and implementation strategy

ATR Program proposal writing and funding development: This task is an important part of the role to ensure the continuation of the ATR program. It includes identification of funding opportunities and development of scope, meetings with stakeholders, presentations of ideas, developing proposal to raise program funds. Deliverables (TBD by consultant): Presentations and proposals including an executive summary, delivery plan and budget to potential funding sources to support the project's long-term establishment. 

Support ATR project researchers: Mentor and facilitate knowledge transfer to ATR project teams. Provide industrial technical support in the context of applications and customers in the targeted value chain. Support the development of one/two-page technology summary presenting KPIs that demonstrate its technical value proposition that can be tailored to attract potential partners/customers. Abstract ATR project learnings to further refine ATR program framework.  Deliverables (TBD by consultatnt): knowledge sharing, generation and transfer via documentation, workshops, and meetings.

Consultant with relevant experience related to the commercialization of bioproduct materials and their processes are invited to submit a short expression of interests (EOI) outlining qualifications, and high-level proposed scope. BPI will invite qualified consultant(s) for detailed discussions leading to development of a statement of work. Anticipated start of consulting period is Summer 2023
