We would like to extend a warm welcome to Dr. Haibo Feng for joining BPI!

Dr. Feng is an Assistant Professor in Wood Science with his research group working on sustainable built environment. He brings expertise on building science, bio-based building material performance, zero carbon buildings with innovative materials and designs to the institute with his international academic and industrial experience.

Currently, Dr. Feng is working closely with provincial and national experts to support the building industry to achieve carbon neutral. He is working on a few start-up companies to verify the potential environmental benefits of new building materials through LCA and circular economy. He is also supporting the development of Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certificates for industry partners to declare their environmental benefits. His research team in Sustainable Built Environment Centre is working on exploring innovative building solutions to achieve carbon negative buildings, investing carbon assessment framework to optimize timber-based tall building design, and proposing calculation solutions for municipalities to achieve urban-scale building carbon reductions.

Dr. Feng is willing to collaborate with researchers to promote bioproducts industry and circular economy towards building design and construction. He will deliver a micro-certificate titled “Circular Bioeconomy Business Development” starting this October to promote more bio-based businesses with industry professionals.
