BPI Connect 2023, held at the UBC Life Science Centre on December 8th, celebrated the close of another wonderful year marked by collective successes and exceptional partnerships. Over 200 guests participated representing 36 industry and government organizations.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from CHBE Department Head Charles Haynes and BPI Scientific Director Orlando Rojas. The keynote presentations that followed featured industry experts Daniel Shum (CTK Bio Canada), Samantha Russell (Bioform Technologies), and Hooman Rezaei (Paper Excellence), offering valuable insights into market trends and the future of the bio-economy.
The highlight was the Showcase Competition, where 40 students and postdocs showcased their innovative research through 1-minute flash presentations and table booth exhibits. A distinguished judging panel, comprising faculty, postdocs, and industry experts, dedicated their time to select the winners.
In the winner's circle, Marina Mehling (PhD Student) claimed the first-place award, Yeedo Chun (PhD Student) secured 2nd place, Julia Azzi (Master's Student) and Jingqian Chen (Postdoc) took home 3rd place, and Isabella Howley (Undergrad Student) earned the People's Choice Award for outstanding presentations.
Dr. Orlando Rojas expressed deep gratitude for the collaborative efforts, emphasizing the indispensable role of partnerships in BPI's ongoing success. Connect 2023 served as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and the joyous celebration of achievements, wrapping up a fruitful year. Congratulations to all participants on a successful event!
