About the Event

Dr. Liyang Liu is an Assistant Professor from Chalmers University of Technology. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia in 2020, with a thesis focusing on the chemical modification of lignin for sustainable polymeric materials. Before joining Chalmers, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Stockholm University, where he studied lignin nanoparticles and their environmental applications. He recently started his tenure-track assistant professor position on lignin science and technology.

His research topics include:

  • Chemical modification and isolation of lignin to create uniform and versatile lignin building blocks
  • Quantitative characterization of their chemical structure, physical properties, and biological activities
  • Application of lignin macromolecule for advanced materials
