BPI SEMINAR BY DR. BUDTOVA

July 25, 2022, 12:00 am to 12:00 am

TITLE

Bio-aerogels: Prospects for Biomedical Applications

DATE & TIME

July 25th Monday 1:30PM - 2:30PM PDT

LOCATION

CHBE Room 202, 2360 East Mall, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z3

ABOUT THE EVENT

Aerogels are open-pores lightweight materials with very high internal pores’ surface area; they are promising materials to be used as matrices for loading and release of active compounds. Using natural polysaccharides to produce bio-based aerogels is especially attractive due to polymers’ potential biodegradability and biocompatibility, essential for cosmetic, pharmacological and biomedical applications.

In this presentation the main ways of bio-aerogel preparation, shaping and properties will be presented; examples of using them in biomedical applications will be given and discussed.

AGENDA

Introduction

Keynote Presentation by Dr. Tatiana Budtova, Mines Paris - PSL

Q&A / Discussion

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Tatiana is an expert in polymer chemical physics, in particular, in polymer solutions, gels and aerogels with a focus on biomass-based polymers, and also in polymer composites with natural fibres. She defended her Ph.D. in the Institute of Macromolecular Compounds of the Russian Academy of Sciences and got Habilitation in France.

Tatiana holds a “research director” position in the Center for Materials Forming of Mines ParisTech, France, and she is the leader of the “Biobased Polymers and Composites” group. She is one of the editors-in-chief of the Carbohydrate Polymers journal, and in 2020 she was awarded a “silver medal” by CNRS for outstanding research related to bio-aerogels.
