A UBC student team mentored by BPI professors Steven Hallam and Feng Jiang is competing at the Biodesign Challenge Summit 2020 on June 16th with their project UBC Virosight.
Project summary: Viral Predictor for mRNA Evolution (VPRE, or “Viper”) is an open-source software tool that utilizes a neural network inspired by evolutionary biology to generate the spike protein sequences of SARS-CoV-2 viruses that are likely to evolve in the future. These sequences would be used for preemptive mRNA vaccine production.
